Bodystorytelling
2023/2024
Bodystorytelling is an innovative program conceived in collaboration with the librarian, the art teacher and the music teacher from Child’s Elementary School, Bloomington, Indiana.
Between 2023/2024 it has been conducted with three classes of Kindergartners and three classes of 1st graders, that is over 120 kids.
For three months, we have fractured fairy tales, dismantled movement patterns, inquired into our bodies, social and emotional, into stories we think we know.
We embarked our youngest students on a journey. A journey that was not about the destination, not about the result but about the way we walk together.
Then we started to build, to construct our own that we put into space to eventually share with a public.
Fairytales, as much as dance, are both concrete and abstract. They are based in believes, in society, imagination and movement. Movement of the thoughts, of the bodies through space and in relation to each other.
Throughout the program students experimented expressing through their bodies. They grew stronger, more self-aware of who they are, physically and mentally. Eventually while trying to inhabit together the same real and imaginary spaces they managed to build individual and collective forms open to the public.
